healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2022/05/02/housetraining-dog.aspx Story at-a-glance Housetraining issues are the cause of many dog relinquishments to animal shelters, as well as many behavior-related visits to veterinarians The ideal time to start housetraining a puppy is 8.5 weeks, but any dog of any age can be housetrained if their human is consistent, positive and patient There are 4 ground rules for housetraining: No. 1 — never leave an un-housetrained dog unsupervised; No. 2 — feed on a consistent daily schedule (no free-feeding); No. 3 — reward your dog for good behavior; No. 4 — do not punish mistakes It's a good idea to establish verbal cues during housetraining so that no matter where you are, you can give your dog the cue to relieve himself My notes: We were lucky. Our 2 dogs we've had we had it easy. The first one was a puppy but she trained herself. The 2nd one we got when she was 1 1/2 years old so was already trained.

Some dog breeds are notorious for being hard to housetrain.

My extended family has had a lot of dogs and I've heard of lots of stories, seems like the most common one is that they often pee on the floor until you get them to go outside on their own. Not sure if I ever want to get one as I don't see myself having the needed strength to endure getting them trained and not making a mess of my place. Plus, it's hard to get them not to bark at every little thing.

Training a dog is better than normal dogs since Ive seen most of the dogs barks with cats and jumps from walls, etc. A well trained dog keeps calm and catch thieves. I tried to train my dog after 6 months and failed as it never listened to me at all.
Untrained dogs are boring for everyone since they cant do any house hold work like bringing something from market.
